Everyone Has A Different Journey

I guest lectured in a Gender Studies Class last week Thursday, and in my talk I stated, "There are as many right ways to be Transgender as there are Transgender people". This is something I firmly believe in, and one of the reasons that I fight for the rights of all who fall under the Transgender and Gender Variant Umbrella.

Sure, crossdressers may have different situations than transsexuals who also have different experiences from genderqueer people. But there is no one way to be trans. The only thing you need to worry about is being yourself, and feeling comfortable in who you are.

When I posted about Glee's transgender character, I realized that I may have come off as sounding like I look down on those who do drag as not Trans. This was not my intention. This last week I found out that a Drag Queen from RuPaul's Drag Race- Carmen Carrera, was coming out as Transgender. This illustrates my earlier point- each Transgender Journey is different.  Some may start as drag queens. Some may know from an early age. Some may not figure it out until they are 40. But for no reason should we ever suspect someone elses identity, we should accept them, and support them.
